Director ID Deadline Approaching

All existing Directors of a company, registered Australian body, registered foreign company, or Directors of corporate trustees of a SMSF are required to apply for a Director Identification Number (Director ID) by 30 November 2022.

If this applies to you and you haven’t already obtained a Director ID, this page provides some important information about how to apply for one.

An application for a Director ID must be made individually and only by those who are applying for the Director ID. As you are required to prove your identity as part of the process, our firm, or any other third party, is not able to apply for a Director ID on your behalf.

A Director ID is a unique identifier a director applies for once and keeps forever. Its purpose is to prevent the use of false or fraudulent director identities.

A person will keep their Director ID even if they stop being a company director, change their name, or move interstate or overseas. It confirms a director’s identity and will in the future show which companies they are linked to.

What do YOU need to do?

Individuals must apply online themselves for a Director ID

It's free to apply and the fastest way to apply is online. See our instructions on how to apply below:

  1. Go to the ABRS website to access the ABRS Director ID service and learn about the Director ID requirements. Begin by selecting ‘Apply for your Director ID’.
  2. Verify your identity using your myGovID credentials or create a myGovID using your smartphone and Australian identity documents. For more information visit How to set up myGovID
  3. Conduct a proof of record ownership by answering two questions about your Australian Taxation Office (ATO) record. If you need any assistance in this regard, please contact our office.
  4. Complete a Director ID application on the ABRS platform to receive the Director ID instantly.

Once you have received your Director ID can you please email these details to tamworth@pkf.com.au and it will be uploaded to all companies linked to you.

** If you can’t set up a myGovID with at least a Standard identity strength, or you don’t have the required Australian identity documents to apply online, how you apply depends on where you currently reside. How to apply by phone or paper can be found on the ABRS Website
